News: The Music Producers Guild Honours Dave Stewart

2 min read

Described by Rolling Stone magazine as ‘the musician’s musician’, and by Bob Dylan as “a fearless innovator, a visionary of high order,” multimedia entrepreneur Dave Stewart has been named by the Music Producers Guild as the 2015 recipient of its Outstanding Contribution to UK Music Award, sponsored by PPL. The award will be presented to Dave Stewart at the MPG 2015 Awards, which take place on February 12th next year at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel in London.

Recognised as one of the most respected and accomplished talents in the music industry today, Dave Stewart’s music career spans three decades and more than 100 million album sales, highlighted by his collaboration with Annie Lennox in the groundbreaking pop-rock duo Eurythmics.

Behind the scenes, he has produced albums and co-written songs for Bono, Bryan Ferry, Gwen Stefani, Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, Katy Perry, Mick Jagger, Sinead O’Connor, Joss Stone, and many more, garnering numerous Producer, Songwriter, Golden Globe and Grammy Awards along the way.

Continuing to stay busy in all aspects of the musical and cultural landscape, working with both legends and undiscovered talent, Stewart produced four albums in 2014 alone: Hollie Stephenson, a 16-year-old singer/songwriter from London whom Stewart has been developing since she was 13 years old; Stevie Nicks’ eighth solo album 24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault comprised of unrecorded songs written between 1969 and 1995; Thomas Lindsey, a one-of-a-kind young male singer from Louisiana; and Los Angeles-based, London-born 14-year-old soulful female singer/songwriter, KAYA, who recently signed her first deal with Warner Bros Records.

In addition, Stewart has recently expanded the management and production divisions of his company, producing videos for deadmau5, Neon Trees, Lionel Richie, Kaskade, and many more. Dave Stewart Entertainment has offices in Los Angeles and Nashville overseeing the careers of seven young artists while acting as Brand Manager to legendary artists.

Beyond his creative work as a musician, Stewart is a renowned producer, author, director, photographer, filmmaker, and philanthropist. He has scored films for several directors, including Robert Altman, Paul Verhoven, and Ted Demme, and has written and produced the title songs for many hit movies. Together with Mick Jagger, he wrote and produced the score for Alfie, starring Jude Law, which won the pair a Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

Now firmly established as a must-attend industry event, the Music Producers Guild Awards celebrate the enormous contribution that recording professionals make to the success of the UK’s music industry. Last year’s Awards attracted more than 300 stars and music industry VIPs who turned out in force to see 16 Award recipients honoured. In 2015, the MPG is once again collaborating with the BRITS to present the winner of its Producer of the Year category with a BRIT Award for Best Producer.
