News: Charli XCX To Tour Aus With Tkay Maidza

2 min read

(AUS) British pop star Charli XCX will be returning to Australian shores this April/May to play headline shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane while in the country to perform at 2015’s Groovin The Moo Festival.

22-year-old Charli XCX burst onto the international pop scene in 2012 after co-writing and featuring on smash hit ‘I Love It’ with Swedish synthpop duo Icona Pop. The track took off after it was featured on Lena Dunham’s television show ‘Girls,’ eventually earning a 4x Platinum certification in Australia. Things continued to heat up for the star in 2013, after she dropped her critically acclaimed debut album True Romance.

In 2014, Charli XCX followed up her debut’s success by co-writing and featuring on Iggy Azalea’s global smash ‘Fancy.’ With over 400 million views on YouTube, ‘Fancy’ is Spotify’s most streamed track of 2014. ‘Fancy’ was arguably the biggest hit of 2014; spending seven weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, selling seven million copies worldwide and receiving two Grammy nominations including Record of the Year.

Her two solo tracks ‘Boom Clap’ and ‘Break The Rules’ have dominated the charts internationally, both achieving platinum certifications in Australia. Combining her two features and two solo tracks, she now has a string of four platinum singles in Australia. Her latest track ‘Doing It’ (ft. Rita Ora) recently debuted on Buzzfeed and is sure to be another smash hit for the star. After releasing her sophomore album SUCKER (available now through Warner Music), featuring industry heavyweights like Patrick Berge, StarGate and Benny Blanco, the album earned the title of sixth best album of 2014 by Rolling Stone.

Charli XCX will be joined by special guest Tkay Maidza. The past twelve months have been huge for the Zimbabwean-born Adelaide hip-hop artist; her live shows at Splendour In The Grass and BIGSOUND left both fans and critics wanting more and her debut album Switch Tape has caught the attention of some of the biggest tastemakers. One to watch in 2015, make sure you catch the woman FasterLouder deemed one of the ‘future legends of Aussie hip-hop’.
