Single Review: Taylor Swift feat. Ed Sheeran – ‘Everything Has Changed’

Red, Taylor Swifts latest record breaking collection of country-crossover gems, was released at the start of the year and pretty much secured the American sweetheart a good few more years under the glimmering lights of the international spotlight. Already the record has turned out chart placing hit singles including her last, 22, the lead single, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, Begin Again and the synth pop heavyweight, I Knew You Were Trouble.

TaylorSwiftEverythingHasChangedBritain appears to have been given a big nod on the record in terms of its featured collaborations. With Snow Patrol’s front-man Gary Lightfoot appearing on The Last Time, it is Everything Has Changed, a duet with singer-songwriter, Brit Award winner and Lego House hit-maker, Ed Sheeran, that has won the coveted ‘single’ title as Taylor prepares for the release of single number 5 from Red.

Everything Has Changed is a sweet unity of two of music’s most successful and influential artists, both voices sitting gently beside each other as they share the lead vocal duties and deliver some charming harmonies, serenading each other throughout the romantic number. The instrumentation is predominately Sheeran-drenched, however Swift does a fine job taking the blueprint and making something incredible from what Sheeran has put together for her.

The track is quite different to what has been released from Red so far, carrying a much more stripped back and casually draped arrangement than the singers usual pop-heavy output but with the US superstars pairing with one of the UK’s finest songsmiths, we reckon the track has all the ingredients needed to become another chart topping hit for Taylor Swift to add to her impressive career and will also undoubtedly push Ed Sheeran’s profile further onto the international stage.
