Single Review: The Dandy Warhols – You Are Killing Me

1 min read

Some might argue that the Dandy Warhols are past their prime. True, it would be extremely difficult to surpass or even match the brilliance of early albums like Welcome to the Monkey House or Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia. If anything, this is a point that is proved undeniably by their latest release, You Are Killing Me, from the upcoming album Distortland.

dandy warhols you are killing meThe chugging guitar riffs are satisfying enough, as are Courtney Taylor-Taylor’s trademark smooth vocals, but it lacks the ingenuity of the Warhols’ earlier releases. It’s a pleasant song which features just enough distortion to be considered “edgy”, while at the same time playing it very safe with a tinny drumbeat and barely audible keyboard solo over the bridge. The vocal melodies are unremarkable, and the lyrics at times verge dangerously close to cliche territory (“Cause i don’t, and I don’t, and I don’t/Ah man I don’t/And that’s why you’re killing me”), but it’s fairly catchy, if rather simplistic.

While not a bad song by any means, considering the grit and grunge of the Dandy Warhols’ early releases, You Are Killing Me comes as something of a disappointment.
