Single Review: Sia – ‘Alive’

1 min read

Pop sensation Sia is full of surprises, and she sure is one busy lady. It’s been just over a year since her hit album 1000 Forms Of Fear was released and the singer is already set to unveil its follow-up, led by the new single Alive. The new single was slated for a September 25th (EST) release, but Sia simply couldn’t wait and dropped it early. The hype is real, it seems.

Sia - AliveDifferent from its power pop predecessors like Chandelier and Elastic HeartAlive sees Sia delve even deeper into mainstream pop. Although her last album was poppy, this is still Sia like you’ve never heard her. She originally wrote Alive with Adele in mind, so naturally (and in true Sia style) the lyrics are sung with emotion; “I’m still breathing, I’m alive” she belts over a chorus worthy of backing that soulful voice.

With her next album This Is Acting to be packed with songs she wrote for other singers, it’s understandable that Alive easily stands alone from Sia’s previous work. The brief moments where the track gets repetitive are easily forgiven, remembering that in the world of pop it’s part of the formula. Alive has Sia’s familiar charm flowing through its veins, so fans won’t be disappointed.
