Single Review: Magic! – ‘No Way No’

1 min read

Currently supporting Maroon 5 on their arena tour of the U.S. and Europe, Canadian reggae fusion quartet MAGIC! have released the latest single from their debut album Don’t Kill The Magic. The band became a global phenomenon in 2014, blowing up radio airwaves and streaming platforms with their breakthrough debut single Rude in 2014. The infectious track has sold over 4 million units worldwide, proving that their effortless brand of reggae-pop is as addictive as it is lucrative.

Magic! No Way NoThe fourth single lifted from the LP, No Way No, continues to combine reggae’s most blithe musical elements with the sleek pop production skills of Grammy Award-winning songwriter and frontman Nasri Atweh. The loved-up track, (Will I ever be too far away when you feel alone? No way, no / Will I ever back down my sword protect our home? No way, no / Will I ever spend a day not telling you you’re beautiful? No way, no) is a laidback affair whose chart success will ride on the band’s model hook-writing; a simple but infectious melody, played over move-provoking syncopation, that will certainly worm its way into listeners’ ears. And with a streaming figure of over 2.6 million streams on Spotify, it seems No Way No has already achieved just that.

While MAGIC!’s latest single might not quite reach the unprecedented success of the still-stuck-in-my-head Rude, No Way No retains the same uncomplicated, unforced and contagious quality of its predecessor, that will bring a refreshing light-heartedness to the charts.
