Single Review: Hurts – ‘Ready To Go’

Published On September 6, 2017 | By Sonia de Freitas | Music, Singles & EP's

Hurts is made up of Theo Hutchcraft on vocals and Adam Anderson on guitar and keyboard. Hailing from Manchester, the duo met in 2005 and formed the bands Bureau and Daggers (who experienced some success in the music industry), before evolving into who they are now. In anticipation of their album Desire, Hurts release the single Ready To Go.

There is so much going on in this song from it’s pop rock dance beginning, grooving base line and gospel influenced call and response…then an 80’s laser funk lick thrown into the works for a bit of pizzazz. With so many elements you would think it would be a senseless jumble of noise, but Hurts have done well to balance each of these creating a tightly produced, progressive and fun track that you can’t listen to sitting down.

The track is so accessible that I think it will do well in the mainstream as well as alternative music charts. I’m looking forward to Desire for sure.
