Single Review: Caro Emerald – ‘Quicksand’

Over the short space of 5 years, Dutch songstress Caro Emerald has become one of the brightest breakthrough acts in music. Her debut, Deleted Scenes From the Cutting Room Floor, spent a phenomenal number of weeks at the top of the charts in her homeland when it was released in 2010 and turned out a string of successful singles including That Man, Riviera Life, Stuck and Back It Up. A couple of years later the singer released her sophomore release, The Shocking Miss Emerald which topped the charts and further solidified her place in pop music throughout Europe and even gave the star an opportunity of touring the US and further abroad.
It’s been 2 years since the release of The Shocking Miss Emerald and the wheels are now in motion for Emerald to deliver album number 3, teasing us recently with the records first single, Quicksand.
Right from the get go there is a thumping beat and Americana twang that adds a very mainstream element to the track. The rhythm casts a club-floor feel to the number and will no doubt be hot property to remix maestros who I’m sure will make this single a club-floor highlight over the upcoming European summer months.
While her first two releases we heavily drenched in vintage jazz, Quicksand hints at a much more pop oriented and commercial full length release. Either way, the track is a fantastic addition to the Caro Emerald repertoire and journey. It’s a catchy, toe-tap worthy single that is beautifully produced and gorgeously delivered by Caro’s pristine vocal prowess.
