Record Rewind: Yellowcard – When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes

4 min read

After a long hiatus from making music, this has got to be known as Yellowcard’s comeback album. When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes is by far one of their best releases in their music career as a band and this album has brought such a positive impact in my life. Needless to say, this release came out at a perfect time where I was going through many hardships and life learning about myself and relationships with other people. I was confused and lost about what I wanted to do with my life as well as deeply concerned and hurt by the ones I thought that would never betray me and listening to this album on repeat for days helped a lot.

YellowcardWhenYou'reThroughThinkingSayYesMy definition of incredible music is to be able to be consistent and have lyrics that speak to you and Yellowcard have done this so well. I think it is because they are so passionate about music that what they do to make great songs is to write from what is really experienced and for that, this is what makes their music so important to myself and many other fans.

The most favourable tracks in this album would definitely have to be For You, and Your Denial, With You Around, See Me Smiling and Be The Young.

For You, and Your Denial is a stand out track from the album because the song itself is very honest and powerful. The lyrics are engaging to the point where it can connect with several people on many different situations and there is one perfect line that grasps this and it is if it’s the past you love then that’s where you can stay and that lyric has stuck by me for a while now. It has taught me that nothing ever stays the same and that to live life properly, we must accept change and be driven by the fact that a lot of things happen for many reasons. The most important thing to do is to just live life without any resentment and regret on fixing the past because you really can’t change it for what it is. People need to realise that to move forward is to leave everything behind and start at a clean slate. No matter the haters and the enemies that you make along the way, if you are strong and determined, you will get very far and live a successful life.

The track With You Around has been a very enjoyable track that I have highly favoured since the first time I listened to it. It is a very upbeat and catchy song with a contagious chorus and it’s quite obvious that this song is about love. For me, this song is enjoying the company of someone you love and just doing the little things with them to keep you both happy while appreciating the presence you have with one another. Being someone that loves to attend live music shows, I got the opportune moment to see this song live by the band twice and I get so happy and excited whenever they play this track.

See Me Smiling and Be The Young are tracks that give a nostalgic feel and in my opinion, they are two of the most beautiful tracks made in this album by Yellowcard. Being able to cope with loss is very hard and listening to See Me Smiling gave me comfort when it came to loss. Life is short and we really don’t know how much time we have left and this song is dedicated to the people that have lost a loved one in their lives. It is very sincere and heartwarming to listen to and gives you a sense of encouragement that this special person that has been taken away from you in life is still watching and guiding over you somewhere. Be The Young always reminds me to appreciate my youth and make the most of what is left of it. Time is fleeting and we are only young once and it reminds me to cherish the moments I have while young, to discover things about myself and to be with the people that matter most in my life.

When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes is by far a masterpiece of an album and will always be a cherished record in my life. I cannot even count how many times I’ve listened to it and it just goes to show that Yellowcard is one of the reasons why I am so passionate about music and this just truly emphasises the fact that they will always be one of my favourite bands ever.
