News: Singer Songwriter Ron Sexsmith Announces Special UK Tour Dates

(UK) 2015 marks a very special year for one of Canada’s most enchanting singer songwriters. 20 years since his major label debut, the self-titled “Ron Sexsmith”, his music has framed and helped define the art of songwriting. A songwriter’s songwriter, he won the admiration of artists such as Elvis Costello and Paul McCartney with his trademark melancholic style.
Having amassed an enthralling body of work, the multi Juno award winning artist will be touring in support of new studio album, Carousel One, probably his most diverse album to date. Q Magazine observed how “Sexsmith confirms his place as artist’s favourite” and AllMusic.com noted how “his best compositions have the feel of timelessness”. For this series of concerts, Sexsmith will performed some of his most well known work as well as premiere new material from Carousel One.
The four date UK tour starts at the Volvo Tyne Theatre in Newcastle on June 26th, then goes to the RNCM in Manchester on June 27th, St George’s in Bristol on June 29th, with the final show in London at the Royal Festival Hall on June 30th where special guest artist Ben Watt will open the show. After twenty years in Everything But The Girl and ten as a respected DJ and label boss, Ben returned to his early folk-jazz roots in 2014 with a widely acclaimed solo album, Hendra, his first since his 1983 cult classic, North Marine Drive. He plays an opening set accompanied by friend and album-collaborator, Bernard Butler (ex-Suede) on guitar.
The London show is a part of the Life In Song series that celebrates the work of the world’s most significant songwriters. Artists that have been celebrated include Don Black, Tim Rice, Tony Hatch, David Arnold, and this summer Burt Bacharach takes to the stage on 26th June.
