Highasakite Offer Exclusive First Listen To US Debut EP (US)

Norwegian dream-pop quintet Highasakite is offering an exclusive first listen to their US debut EP, In And Out Of Weeks, at HitFix.com. Out this week on Propeller Recordings, the band, comprised of Ingrid Helene Håvik (vocals, zither), Trond Bersu (drums), Øystein Skar (synths), Marte Eberson (synths), and Kristoffer Lo (guitar, percussion, flugabone, tuba), is preparing for their US touring debut at SXSW, followed by dates in LA and NYC.

Highasakite “bridges the gap between sensible pop, progressive rock, and Norwegian folk music” (Interview Magazine: “Discovery”) and is “that rare band whose knack for glistening pop is matched by their ability to tap into the experimental ether.” (SPIN). Called “a thing of hazy loveliness” (NME) and “a little moody, a little folky, but not in the way Of Monsters and Men fit that description…there’s a lot more personality going on here” (BrooklynVegan), the band took flight when Håvik and Bersu met while studying jazz at the Trondheim Jazz Conservatory. With Bersu on drums and Håvik singing and playing zither, the duo enlisted producer Thomas Dahl (Krøyt) to help them capture the sounds they were hearing in their heads, and expanded to a five-piece shortly thereafter. With the release of their Norwegian debut, All That Floats Will Rain, the band started playing live, gaining ‘Best New Act of 2012′ accolades from the Norwegian press and receiving international attention for their stellar performances at Iceland Airwaves, Eurosonic, Berlin Music Week, Øya Festival and more.

Highasakite’s blend of 1960s American pop, Norwegian folk, shimmering synths and more far-flung touches like zither and autoharp make for a sturdy foundation on which Håvik’s rich voice can rest. Her English cadence is endearingly Norwegian, and it suits her heartfelt lyrics. In and out of weeks runs the gamut of timbres and emotions, from mid-tempo rockers to wistful ballads. Coming a long way from their humble beginnings as a duo, Highasakite has steadily built enough momentum to break out of their homeland. Don’t miss them for their stateside debut next week!
