EP Review: Saint Raymond – Ghosts

2 min read

Saint Raymond (aka Callum Burrows) made waves with his debut EP Escapade in 2013, the opening track Fall At Your Feet was a previous iTunes Single of the Week; his second EP Young Bloods was supported by his first ever headline tour of the UK, and currently with the release of his new EP Ghosts he has managed to score the opening slot for Ed Sheeran’s Multiply tour of Europe, England and Ireland; not a bad feat at all for the 19 year old Nottingham resident. His Ghosts EP has been highly anticipated by his existing fan base who are keen for more from the singer/songwriter, here’s a rundown of the project.

Saint Raymond-Ghosts EPOpener Everything She Wants is a catchy and upbeat number, the perfect way to begin an EP; it definitely captures your initial listening attention, it has a commercial yet unique feel to it. Brighter Days is a contrast compared to its predecessor, it definitely has more edginess in its structure, particularly the sound of the guitar and Burrows’ vocal. Burrows’ braved including a live recording on the EP, there is a somewhat more sentimental and intimate feel to English Rose and perhaps the live version would only capture those elements. Ghosts finishes the EP on a more upbeat note, the track has a more commercial feel to it and would make a popular single. It can’t help but be noted that the Saint Raymond sound shares similarities with that of Ed Sheeran, it is understandable why this act would be a suitable choice to open for the star.

Saint Raymond’s Ghosts EP was definitely a great, light listen. It is perfect for fans of the singer/songwriter genre and existing fans of Saint Raymond, however I am sure the singer/songwriter’s audience would be hoping for a full length release sometime soon. Ghosts features  wonderful sounding vocals from Burrows that doesn’t grow over tiring and the sound of the EP is appealing and makes for an easy and enjoyable listen. Hopefully there will be more from Saint Raymond not loo much longer from now.
