Single Review: Caro Emerald – ‘Back It Up’

Dutch songstress Caro Emerald is set to release her debut single, Back It Up on 4th October. Taken from her forthcoming album, Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor, Back It Up is a lyrically suggestive and superb introduction for the rising diva of jazz seduction.
As soon as this track starts it is instantly loveable. The cool, persuasive yet almost trombone opens the number before a smooth, caribbean, rolling beat takes you gently throughout the track. Caro comes in swiftly to deliver some charming, articulated vocals that are seeping 50’s jazz grandeur.
She skips vocally through the number with ease and precision over the melody which is lifting with its horn section backing and smouldering backing vocals that dance hand in hand with Emerald’s genuinely sweet vocal styling.
The structure of Back It Up is quite remarkable. Hailing from the Netherlands and studying jazz from an early age, you can hear the singers learning in full force throughout Back It Up which sets the scene for the soon to be released debut album.
The parent record, Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor, which finally sees it release over here in the UK later this month, recently enjoyed a remarkable, record breaking 27th week in the number one spot of the Dutch charts, helped enormously by the release and sounds of Back It Up which has garnished Emerald with an astonishing number of followers.
Back It Up is a juicy debut for an already largely adored new lady on the block that we will be seeing and hearing a lot more of over the last quarter of this year and beyond with the release of that record breaking album and the gorgeous ebs and flows of Back It Up set to ignite some flames on UK airwaves this month.
