Album Review: Selena Gomez – Revival

2 min read

Pop Princess Selena Gomez has returned to the mainstream game with sophomore release Revival. Giving everyone a peak into the emotions of the heart Gomez is all about the lyrics with this album, delivering many tracks full of depth and emotion.

Selena Gomez - RevivalComing out of the gate strong is title track Revival beginning with Gomez stating, “I dive into the future, but I’m blinded by the sun. I’m reborn in every moment, so who knows what I’ll become” before the track flows into a mid tempo pop melody. It’s a track all about self-empowerment and a beautiful representation on how far Gomez has come as not only a singer, but also a person. Taking on a similar theme, is the uplifting and inspiring track Rise with a big, empowering chorus saying, “Yes, I know there are those who will wanna bring you down. But you can rise with you mind and make your higher power proud.”

Jacking up the attitude is the hard hitting second single Same Old Love, with its bold beat and sassy lyrics it’s quite the showstopper (and foot stomper). Keeping on with relationship burners is Me & My Girls, a high-energy tune with Latin flair with Gomez’s sultry voice letting the world know that she doesn’t need a man.  While there’s plenty to dance too Revival is also home to some stunning ballads like Sober, Camouflage and Nobody that slow down the tempo and wow with their deep meaning and emotional performance.

Aptly named, Revival is the resurgence of Selena Gomez. She’s had a spotlight on her for so long and now she’s taking her opportunity to hit back at all her critics and prove to the world once and for all that she’s a survivor and a talented one at that. Overall Gomez has delivered a stunning pop release detailing her feelings on love and the importance of empowering yourself and others.
